I began my career as a classroom teacher, but have become steadily more interested in everything else that impacts our students’ success.

Beginning with attending Board of Education meetings, I joined with other parents and community members to form New London Parent Advocates, an organization that identified areas of concern in New London’s schools.

I have served on the NL Board of Education since 2013; have supported policies that ensure equity, respect for diversity, and restorative practices; and advocated for fair school funding in our city and in Hartford.

In summer 2018, I attended the National Education Leadership and Public Policy Academy, held in Los Angeles and sponsored by NALEO (National Association of Latino Elected Officials), where I met several Connecticut legislators and became intrigued by the potential for advocating for New London within the General Assembly.
